The Kralj Tomislav Folkore Ensemble is New Zealand's pre-eminent group performing the traditional kolo (dance) and music of Croatia.
It currently consists of three kolo groups: The First Ensemble of senior dancers and singers, our intermediate dancers featuring rising young talent, and more than 30 dancers in the junior children's groups. Dances are performed from various regions of Croatia, and are presented with pride in traditional costumes. Both the intermediate and junior groups form an integral part of our ensemble, for it is the members of these groups who will develop the skills to naturally progress to the senior group.
At concerts and events, the performers are accompanied by our orchestra of musicians playing traditional instruments.
The Kralj Tomislav first ensemble is privileged to have represented the Croatian culture in New Zealand with extensive tours of Croatia and Australia over the years, and received international acclaim for upholding the traditions and artistry of kolo. The group has also featured in Croatian media, has sold out concert halls and appeared on nationally televised events in Croatia.
Kralj Tomislav is very fortunate to be directed by a leading exponent of the Croatian folklore tradition, Mr. Goran Kačurov. Since 2008 Goran has developed Kralj Tomislav into professional and energetic ensemble of performers it has become today.
